Add a schedule to turn Monitor on and off

This article is for IT Contacts.

Schedule Monitor to actively monitor devices during school days and to pause monitoring devices when school is closed. This article explains how to create a schedule.

Before you start

Check all relevant schedules with your school or your Safeguarding Leads. These dates may include:

  • School days
  • School breaks (e.g. Christmas break, Easter break)
  • Public holidays (e.g. bank holidays)
  • Non-operating days (e.g. preparation days for school opening, staff training days)

Step 1: Add schedule

  1. Sign in to Smoothwall or Linewize portal and go to Admin Panel > Schedule Monitor.
  2. On the right pane, select + Add Schedule.
  3. In the Add Schedule screen, give your new schedule a descriptive name. This helps you identify the schedule easily. For example, “SY 2025 - Term 1 - Monday to Friday”.
  4. Select a tenant. The schedule applies only to this tenant.

Note

If you’re a multi-tenant customer, you can add the same schedule for multiple tenants, or add different schedules for different tenants.

Step 2: Add school times and days

Set the school times and days when Monitor should be active for your school. The start and end times you’ve set apply only to the days you select.

  1. Select the Time Zone from the dropdown.
  2. Add school times. You can enter the start and end times or select the clock icon to pick them.
  3. Select your school days.

Note

If you want to set different school times and days for the same week (for example, 8AM to 3PM on Mondays to Wednesdays and 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM on Thursdays to Fridays), save this schedule first. Next, add a new schedule by repeating Step 1: Add schedule and Step 2: Add school times and days.

(Optional) Step 3: Add non-school days

Set when Monitor should pause monitoring your users’ devices, such as during term breaks and holidays. If you don’t add non-school days, Monitor will be active during the school times and days you’ve set in Step 2.

  1. Select + Add Non-School day. A line to set your non-school days will appear.
  2. Enter a descriptive name (for example, “Christmas break 2025”).
  3. Select the Start Date and the End Date from the date picker. Start Date is set to the current date by default.
  4. Select the Save icon (MON-GUI-155_save icon.png) to save the non-school days.

You can add more non-school days by selecting + Add Non-School day.

Step 4: Save your schedule

  1. Select Save schedule at the bottom-right of the screen. This button will stay inactive (grey) until all required fields are complete.
  2. On the confirmation pop-up, select Yes, save and notify. Monitor will notify all Safeguarding, Limited Safeguarding, and IT Contacts about the new schedule.
