This article outlines the steps to deploy Monitor to Windows devices via Microsoft Intune.
Before you begin
You must be an IT Contact in Monitor.
Your device must meet Monitor’s minimum system requirements.
If you use a firewall or filtering system other than Smoothwall, allow these domains.
Access to Microsoft Intune with appropriate administrative privileges.
Find your Organisation ID and UNCL Serial.
1. Deploy the .intunewin file
To deploy the client via Intune, you only need the .intunewin file from the extracted download. For help on Intune app deployments, see Microsoft's guide on adding Win32 apps to Intune.
Open Intune and go to Dashboard > Apps > Windows.
Select + Add on the toolbar.
Select Windows app (Win32) from the App type dropdown.
On the App information tab, select Select app package file. Find the .intunewin file on your device or shared drive, then select OK.
The Name, Description and App Version fields should autofill. Review the form and ensure Smoothwall is entered in the Publisher field (required), then select Next.
On the Program tab, set Allow available uninstall to Yes and Device restart behavior to App install may force a device restart, then select Next.
On the Requirements tab, set the Operating system architecture to 64-bit and the Minimum operating system to Windows 11 21H2, then select Next.
On the Detection rules tab, set Rules format to Manually configure detection rules, then select + Add.
On the pop-up dialog, change Rule type to MSI and select OK.
Back on the Add app tab, select Next.
Select Next on the Dependencies and Supersedence tabs.
-
On the Assignments tab, select the Device Group where the software needs to be installed.
Tip
To install Monitor on all devices, select + Add all devices.
On the Review + Create tab, select Create. The Monitor app deployment will start.
2. Deploy the Monitor deployment script
The next step is to run the deployment script to configure the client with your school's unique identifiers.
Open your downloaded Monitor deployment script in a text editor.
-
Add your UNCL Serial ($serial) and Organisation ID ($org) to the top of the script and save your changes.
Image 1: Add your school’s UNCL Serial and Organisation ID in the deployment script. In Intune, go to Dashboard > Devices > Scripts.
-
Select the + Add dropdown, select Windows 10 and later, then select Next.
Note
This option covers Windows 10 and Windows 11 devices.
On the Add PowerShell script page > Basics tab, enter a name and description for the script, then select Next.
On the Script settings tab, select the folder icon to upload your saved script.
-
On the Assignments tab, select the Device Group the script needs to be installed on.
Tip
To install the script on all devices, select + Add all devices.
On the Review + add tab, select + Add. Intune will begin pushing the script to your assigned devices.
3. Check deployment
It is recommended that you check the deployment to ensure Monitor has been successfully installed and configured on your target devices.
In Intune, go to Apps > All apps and select the Monitor app you want to check.
Under the Monitor section, select Device install status.
-
Review the status column for your targeted devices.
Installed: The installation was successful.
Failed: The installation was unsuccessful. Select the device name to view the error details and troubleshoot.
Install Pending / Waiting for install status: The device has not yet synced with Intune or completed the installation process.
Not applicable: The app isn't compatible with the device (for example, an OS version or architecture mismatch).
